Art Journaling for Kids

Back in 2011, I taught art at a private school in Boca Raton, Florida. Mind you, I have a limited art background, but they wanted me to teach more art history and just a bit of the basic principles of design. I could do that much, I figured. Well, I ended up with a class of middle schoolers (some autistic, all with some sort of learning disability), and we had a blast!

I recently found my art journal that contains projects I got from Art Projects for Kids. The students were required to keep an art journal, and every Friday they did a journal project. We also did Aboriginal dot painting and Zentangle mandalas (their absolute favorite thing to do!).

Here are some of my pictures (a far cry from the art journaling I do now!). I love the idea prompts though and would like to revisit them in what I am doing today.

I’ll try to find the flash drive containing the kids work and post it here. Their work is amazing!
